Ages 5-9

EACH CLASS starts with a 5 minute drawing exercise, followed by a 15 minute lesson. 35 minutes will be spent on artwork, and the last 5 minutes will be spent cleaning up and getting ready to leave. If there is no lesson that day, then 50 minutes will be spent on artwork. If student has an unfinished project, they will work on said project

Drawing & Mixed Media

Drawing & Mixed Media

Calling kids who love to draw, and want to learn more!! Children will engage in drawing and mixed media art classes. Students will learn how to use perspective to create space, how to use drawing pencils, colored pencils, and oil pastels to create realistic shades and light to create depth and form, etc.

This class also has a focus on chil

SEPTEMBER 2025: Perspective in Art

Tuesday, September 9th- 80's Neon Landscape

Students will use 1 point perspective to make a grid-like pattern appear to be going far into the distance and chalk and oil pastel techniques to give a glowing effect. 

Tuesday, September 16th- Name Optical Illusion

Students will use 1 point perspective and shading with blending stumps to create an optical illusion. 

Students have the option to do this assignment using colored pencil. 

Tuesday, September 23rd- Portals to Another Dimension!

Students will create depth in a brick wall leading to another world using their 1 point perspective and shading skills (and their imagination, as well!).

OCTOBER 2025: VALUE 

Tuesday, October 7th- Realistic Marbles

Students will learn how to create the effects of light and translucency by drawing a realistic marble. 

Tuesday, October 14th- Water Droplets

Students will create several highlights and shadows using oil pastel to create dimensional water droplets.

Tuesday October 21st- Realistic Lollipops

Students will map out all the different values they can find while observing real lollipops or colored photos of lollipops to create realistic, detailed lollipop drawings. 

(Class includes free dum dum lollipops for your child :) )

NOVEMBER 2025: Drawing and Mixed Media 

Tuesday, November 4th- Drawing Pumpkins (Observation Drawing)

Students will paint and decorate pumpkins, then draw them using observational drawing skills. 

Tuesday, November 11th- Perspective Fall Leaves

Students will use photography and printmaking, as well as perspective drawing. Students will take photos of themselves from the perspective of looking down at their feet. They will draw themselves using this reference photo. Then, students will paint and print several different leaves around their feet, as if they were standing in a pile of leaves. 

Tuesday, November 18th- Kusama Pumpkin Patch!

Students will create a drawing of a pumpkin patch inspired by Yayoi Kusama's installation art. Students will create the illusion of space by using overlap, and create interest by using a variety of pumpkins shapes and sizes. 

NO CLASSES Tuesday November 25th

DECEMBER 2025: COLOR THEORY (Drawing)

Tuesday, December 2nd- Color Versus Black and White

Students will create drawings that juxtapose the use of color and the use of black and white, and notice how these areas create different visual effects and moods. 

Tuesday, December 9th- Color Schemes (Andy Warhol)

Students will use a transfer technique to reproduce a drawing multiple times, and will experiment with how using different color schemes can create different moods. 

NO CLASSES Tuesday, December 16th, 23rd, and 30th.

Wednesday, October 1st- Pop-Tart Plushies!

Students 

Children will engage in fiber art classes. Students will learn the basics of sewing, weaving, how to use yarn to create artistic compositions, etc. in engaging assignments that foster and encourage their creative thinking and problem solving skills. 

OCTOBER 2025: Sewing and Yarn Painting!

Wednesday, October 1st- Pop-Tart Plushies!

Students will learn the basic running stitch to sew a Pop-Tart plushie. Students may add googly eyes and details such as icing and sprinkles using scrap fabric and liquid stitch glue.

Wednesday, October 8th- Piñata Plushies

Students will celebrate Hispanic Heritage month by sewing piñata plushies using a whip stitch. 

Wednesday, October 15th- Yarn Paintings

Students will shape and adhere different colored yarn to create an artistic composition reminiscent of a painting. 

NO CLASSES Wednesday October 22nd or October 19th

NOVEMBER 2025: Weaving and Nature

Wednesday, November 5th- Yarn Trees!

Students will use metal wires to sculpt trees, and then create colorful patterns by winding yarn around the tree's trunk and limbs. 

Wednesday, November 12th- Weaving on Cardboard

Students will learn basic weaving using cuts in cardboard circles and yarn. 

Wednesday, November 19th- Weaving on Sticks

Students will be inspired by Native American patterns to weave basic color patterns between real branches. 

NO CLASSES Wednesday, November 26th

DECEMBER 2025: Yarn Decor

Wednesday, December 3rd - Yarn Tassel Wreaths

Students will welcome the holidays by creating wreaths using yarn tassels. 

Wednesday, December 10th- Eyes of God Ornaments

Students will use yarn to create Eyes of God, which will then be transformed into ornaments. 

Note: Eye of God is being used in this class as an artistic design, and not as a focus of any specific religion. 

NO CLASSES Wednesday December 17th, 24th, or 31st
